The antenna on top is a Diamond X50NA VHF / UHF antenna connected with Proxicast LMR400 copycat cable via a Proxicast lightning arrester. I tested it with a Surecom SW-102 as having an SWR of 1:1 at 146 MHz and 1.3:1 at 435 MHz
The other antenna is a KB9VBR GMRS J-pole connected with Proxicast LMR400 copycat cable via a Proxicast lightning arrester. I tested it with a Surecom SW-102 as having an SWR of 1.01:1 at 462 MHz and 1.7:1 at 467 MHz (I need to get back on the roof to adjust it a little, we should be able to get that much lower!)
Both cables terminate in PL259 UHF connectors inside the house with about 10' of play. Please feel free to bring an antenna switch, jumpers, adapters, whatever!
CAUTION!!!
If you are not an experienced radio operator, please take note... running a radio at too high of an SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) can damage your radio! Bring an SWR meter. Even though I've tested these antennas at a couple of reasonable frequencies, I cannot guarantee that you will be operating at a safe ratio with your equipment.
Kachina Amateur Radio Club is local and meets at 6:30PM on the second Tuesday of each month at New Hope Christian Fellowship Church at 989 Cheney Ranch Loop (about a mile away, leave Chaparral Dr westbound on 260, it'll be your fourth left the map says!). There are a few nets you can join.
Rim Country mateur Radio Club (W7RIM) is based in Heber-Overgaard and meets at 6PM on the second Thursday of each month at the Heber-Overgaard fire station at 2061 Lumber Valley Rd.
There are a number of repeaters and nets in repeaterbook.com
For GMRS, MyGMRS will let you find some nearby repeaters. Porter Mtn 725, Greens Peak 575, and Greens Peak 700 are open repeaters with great coverage of the area.
